I said I wanted to write about the Business and Computing (BCG) course with more details right? So here goes... (I hope I can subdivide my content properly)
That baffles me too. Frankly, I lacked ambition so I never had and still don't have a clear career path in mind. During my A levels period I was just thinking that I should be ok with either accountancy OR computer science. Since my aptitude for math is decent? I definitely didn't think about taking TWO degrees (I mean who would do that, pfft.). Honestly, one degree would suffice to start yourself in the workforce, it's just work experience subsequently. (That's what I hear from seniors.) And my A level results weren't that ideal. AAB/C and C for GP. By right I would struggle to get into NBS Accountancy. So what happened is that I went to NTU Open House and visited the SCSE booth. I went to listen to an SCSE talk right before that and they mentioned taking minor in Business. I didn't even think about double degree. So I went to ask one of the profs there about taking minor in Business (in particular, whether my grades can make it or not). And she just told me "Why take a minor (with more workload and still 1 degree) when you can take double degree and get 2 degree certs in the end?". And she insisted that my grades can still make it (subjected to demand).
I got convinced by that 😱 and I went to put BCG as my first choice! One thing to note is that while I'm under both NBS and SCSE academic-wise, administration is primarily on SCSE's side. So technically I registered under SCSE, even my matric card is U172xxxxX, which indicates that I'm an engineering student. And SCSE is totally ok with my grades solely for a computer science course so~ Though I really didn't expect that I can get into BCG, it was a stroke of luck! And here I am!
[For the subsequent points below, I will edit accordingly as I get to live more of the NTU life.]
shit doubt it is super hiong! An average of 21 AUs every semester. I will lmao my friends who tell me that "Oh my god I will take 20 AUs in a certain semester, I will die." And I'm like "Bitch then I will definitely dieded (intentionally wrote it like that this is my internet language) in every semester!" But gotta make such a compromise to graduate in 4 years (compared to other double degree courses that would easily take up 5 years or so).
Both NBS and SCSE have arranged it so as to overlap certain courses that can fulfil the requirements for both degrees accordingly. For example, I don't need to take HW0188 and HW0288 - Engineering Comm I and II since I would have taken AB0601 and AB0602 - Comm Fund and Comm Strategies in replacement. I would also have limited GERPE and UE. For instance, CZ0001 - Engineers & Society is a GER-CORE for CS and GERPE-LA for Business. Works the same for another module on the Business side but I forgot which module that is. So I'll only have 3 AUs of GERPE-STS throughout my NTU life. As for UE, some AUs are used up to include our best grades from the other degree. We're left with 6 AUs of UE to spare. So in total, I have 9 AUs that are electives and since NTU gives us 12 AUs to S/U, I think my choice is obvious. Unless I am super confident that I can nail those electives, I shall see.
In terms of exemptions, you can be exempted for up to 2 courses. And I am eligible for neitherCONGRATZ and the dumbest kid award goes to. They are:
CZ1011 - Engineering Math I. You need an A for H2 Math (obviously, and I did get A for that) AND an A for 3 H2 subjects in total. I call the latter point bullsh*t but yea that is why I wasn't exempted. I mean I did eventually get a free A for that subject but still!
AB0901 - Econs. You just need an A for H2 Econs, no rocket science. But Econs is always my weak subject in JC so I'm more surprised that I passed my A level Econs to begin with. Problem is unless I can somehow push it forward, the recommended curriculum is that I take this in year 4, and I would have forgotten all my Econs knowledge by then + fighting with normal NBS year 1 students, especially girls fresh out of JC with some retention of Econs knowledge. It's gonna be a bumpy as hell ride.
and weight gain from all the food. Saved me a lot of money from buying snacks for studying.
Why the hell did I register for BCG?
